Vehicle Description

1955 Ford Thunderbird

OK, it's a lot harder to add photos than I thought. If you're interested, just message me on email & I'll send you photos of anything you want- engine, body, speed equipment, etc. Thanks! On Monday, I am going to start changing photos in the ad to show exactly what is included with the car...like doors, fenders, hood, hardtop, trunk lid, bumper, headers, header flanges, hurst shifter, engine, piston (I have an extra), external oil pump & drive, optional oil pan, transmission, drive yokes for trans & diff, etc. I have all ( 95%) of the trim for the car. I'll also show the dyno sheet.
I understand that this is a lot of money for a project car....I am asking for the $2,000 Buy It Now committment to establish the cred of the potential buyer. I will work with that potential buyer, sending photos &/or descriptions of whatever parts or info he/she wants to see. If he/she is not satisifed with the info provided, I will return the $2,000 Paypal deposit. I want to see the car go to someone who not only appreciates it but has the determination to finish it. There are some awesome early Birds out there...this could easily be another one.
As for the value of the engine alone...go to Barnett High Performance, or enter "MEL Engine" on your browser...they specialize in high performance MEL builds. The 510 MEL included with this car is at least as good as their $15,600 stage 5 engine (in my opinion, it is better). Go to Dan Kee Toploaders to find out the value of the big block date coded transmission RUG AJ as fully rebuilt. Add it all up, it's a big number.

1955 FORD THUNDERBIRD PRO-STREET : Even More Added Info: The buyer will receive all paperwork on the car, including parts invoices, letters between engine builder, machine shops, etc. It's a big box.More Added Info: I have been asked 2 questions- rear wheels are 17X8 Wheel Vintiques with Goodyear Radials 245/55R17 9" wide tread, speed rated. If you want bigger tires, will have to tub. Mickey Thompson Streets will fit. Question #2- can this engine easily convert to an automatic- answer is yes. All of the 462 engines came with automatics, get the 1967-8 C6 3-speed trans, it can handle the HP & TQ, bolts right up. Will have to change the trans mount, as it is all set up for the Toploader. IF YOU DECIDE YOU WANT TO DO AN AUTOMATIC, WE CAN WORK ON THE PRICE, AS YOU WILL NOT NEED THE CUSTOM BELLHOUSING, FLYWHEEL, CLUTCH, THROWOUT BEARING, TOPLOADER TRANS AND HURST SHIFTER. 1955 FORD THUNDERBIRD PRO-STREET PROJECT WITH NEW ENGINE!!! START A PROJECT THAT YOU CAN FINISH- I CAN'T!!! ADDED INFO: Car comes with grille(s), bumpers, gravel pan, complete doors (have all parts), door glass, trim, lights. This Tbird started life in Arizona, went to California, then was sold to the Indiana resident I purchased it from. Still has the Arizona title with my name as purchaser...can obtain a new Indiana title if buyer wants. I have invested about $35,000 in the car and engine. The car has been media blasted, and the frame and suspension rebuilt by Risk Racecraft in Indianapolis, one of the nation's top race car suspension shops. I am a big guy, and when I tried to get into one of these small Birds, I did not fit...so I had the floor lowered and the interior enlarged- it can now fit someone 6'-5" and 250# comfortably. Steel plate floor, new frame structure, 4 link rear. The rear suspension is a GT Mustang, narrowed to fit (the car has not been tubbed), 4 link with track bar, disc brakes on all 4 corners, coilovers on all 4 corners, rebuilt front suspension, new rack and pinion steering from Flaming River. Firewall in stock location, big block Lincoln engine set back, all engine and trans mounts in place. Steel doors and trunk lid, fiberglass front fenders and hood- this is not race car fiberglass, these are street weight pieces, very sturdy. Your choice- you can install the glass pieces like a stock steel front end or make a one-piece tilt up if that's your deal. ENGINE:The engine is a 510 cu. in. 1967 MEL Lincoln, BRAND NEW WITH DYNO TIME ONLY, featuring the best of everything: Arias custom pistons, Scat rods, stroker crank, Isky roller cam, Harland Sharp roller rocker arm assemblies, Slover Porting (in Sunnyside, CA) did the heads, ported, new guides, Manley Valves. Engine assembled by an Engine Masters winner!!! The vintage Isky cam is perfect for a street engine, good idle, good street manners for 500HP and 600ftlbs of torque! Runs on 93 unleaded!! Tunnel ram included...not the sheet metal manifold in the photos, that was a gag shot. If you are a hard core racer, swap the cam out for a bigger grind and get 650HP...I wanted primarily a street cruiser. TRANSMISSION: The transmission is a big in, big out Ford Toploader from a 1969 428 big block Torino. These are very hard to find date coded, the trans is worth a lot to a restorer. It has been completely rebuilt and is ready to go. New Hurst Competition Plus 4 speed shifter is included. Trans has been mounted to a custom modified aluminum bellhousing, and the flywheel and clutch are mounted and ready to run. A new flywheel and clutch are installe, along with a new hydraulic throwout bearing.WHAT's INCLUDED & WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO BUY: Everything that has been mentioned in the description is included. There is not a lot of the soft interior left...no seats, but I do have the door panels and all the trim pieces, the steering wheel and shaft, the dashboard, some instruments. You will have to buy a new windshield (the original is included but is cracked), paint, a drive shaft, a fuel tank, and an exhaust system. Big Block headers are included, along with laser cut header flanges for the Lincoln engine. Tires and wheels are new and are included. Car is a roller. I can send additional photos if you need to see any individual parts. PAYMENT AND PICK UP: IF YOU ARE READY TO BUY, A $2,000 PAYPAL DEPOSIT IS REQUIRED. ONCE I HAVE THAT, I WILL SEND WIRING INSTRUCTIONS TO THE BUYER FOR A BANK WIRE FOR THE BALANCE OF THE AGREED-UPON PRICE. PICKUP WILL BE IN INDIANAPOLIS. I think it would be best if the new owner picked up the Bird in person, so we can go through all the parts and pieces and make sure everyone is satisfied. Thanks for looking, I think you will be very happy with the quality of what is being offered.
